We all know that we are supposed to back-up our files because there are only two kinds of hard drives - those that have failed and those that will fail. In the old days when hard drives were small we kept a lot of our files on floppies and bade copies. A few of us back up regularly to another hard drive, a ZIP or a flash drive.

The few of us who back up our files begin by backing up daily, but this slips to weekly and then to every three weeks and then to only on rainy days when we are bored. When your hard drive fails there goes all those pictures, the music and the Quicken files. How are we going to overcome our natural laziness.

NTI Shadow 2.0 is a neat solution. Launch automatically at Log-in and NTI Shadow runs in the background sensing which files have changed and then copying the modified file to a new location preferably on another hard drive. In my case I back up the Documents file but there is no reason why you cant back up the User folder and save you current settings.

For those of you who don't back up regularly there are disk recovery experts (out side the FBI). One of them calls himself Lazarus. The cost to recover a disk is about $2000.
