General Information

The Senior Macintosh Users Group of La Verne is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Most of our members are eligible to receive Senior Discounts at nearly all restaurants, but "youngsters" who want to join us are welcome to come. We meet at the La Verne Community Center on D Street, just south of Foothill Blvd, at 12:30 PM the second Monday of each month, in the city of La Verne in the San Gabriel Valley. The Community Center is right behind City Hall, and right next to the library, so we are very easy to find.

Our meetings usually are casual, and focus on mutual help for any problems or questions a member or visitor might have. We also sometimes have presentations, which have included the following:

• An introduction to simple HTML for construction of a web page by Ed Keith, owner of a local ISP, and instructor in Computer Science at a local Junior College
• The basics of Mac sound programs, an introduction to Mac Music by Don Ketchum
• Using a Nikon 950 camera to get pictures into your Mac, by Francine Schwieder, with Gail Schadt's new iBook

While some of our members are very experienced and have the latest computer goodies, others are brand-new Mac users, or are running a very old Mac. You needn't feel shy because of your age, experience level, or the age of your Mac. We are a small friendly group, with 42 members currently on our membership list.

SMUG Membership Information:

To help all of us help each other we have prepared a "Member Information" form which you can fill out. This information will be added to the SMUG database and is sent as a PDF file to our members every month. You'll be able to get help from other members even when you aren't at a meeting! Membership Benefits

• Help with your problems and questions, both at the meetings and by telephone to fellow members between meetings.
• Free goodies from various vendors, given to the club for promotional purposes.
• Special User Group discounts at such places as the Apple Store.
• We have a number of Special Features, including tutorials, web display of member pictures, member reviews of books and software, and workshops.
