Redoing the Bathroom: The End is Near

walls
All tiled albeit still ungrouted.

To the left you can see all the tile is in place, save for that one little corner, and I'm ready to start grouting. Grout is my least favorite tile activity. Probably because it involves a lot of cleaning, which I've always found boring. But I got the bathroom painted, floored, and the walls tiled in less than a month. This is a remarkable achievement for me. No doubt the fact that my family is coming to visit on July 9th has spurred my industriousness. They are all VERY industrious. Also, they'll need a bathroom. Oh, I also reconditioned the medicine cabinet. The replacement I bought turned out to be too big to fit without knocking out parts of the wall. I decided refurb would do for now.

By the way, if you notice a bit of oddness in the middle of the sort of fisheye photo below, it is because I stitched together 3 photos in Photoshop, and the middle one didn't want to fit right, nor did all the colors match up quite right. But you'll get the general idea.

Below you see the finished product, as seen and used by the Chism family. I got to this point and took a shower on Friday night, they arrived on Saturday. Phew! Just made it!

Some things I didn't get done: finding a pipe the right size to hook the fancy spigot with the gizmo to switch to shower on it, an improved vanity, and a new medicine cabinet to match the vanity. For the time being the shower thingy is just attached directly to the pipe. And I decided the only way to get a vanity and medicine cabinet to match the toilet seat and fit correctly in the space available is to build 'em myself. So that will be the next part of the project. And I think I'll build matching shelves as well, putting them above the toilet, where one of my old paintings is currently hanging.

Oh, and the nice man at Lowe's, who has been helping me pick tile from the start, cut that corner tile for me for free. Wasn't that sweet? I promised to bring him pictures next time I visit the store.

And Finishing the Vanity

sink sink
So after the company left I did redo the vanity/sink, and was quite pleased by way it turned out. Toilet paper will just fit in the section against the wall, and I like the sort of art nouveau look the wood trim gives it. Getting photos of it was a bit of challenge though.
