It was once again, as it so often is, an absolutely beautiful Thanksgiving Day in La Verne, clear skies and the temperature was in the low 80s when I set out for my T-Day Walk. I wanted to enjoy the day, work up an appetite, and take some photos. The last time I had a chance to do this was in 2005. On that occasion I headed east, thru the park, by the Library and City Hall, and then back home. This year I headed west, planning on strolling thru the rather shady Hillcrest retirement community. Even with the shade I still worked up a sweat. |
Aside from wanting to get some exercise, and hoping I would get some pretty photos, I had two things in mind: get some autumn color of local trees, and find some nice flowers in bloom. This tree is quite near me, and I think has plenty of color. Below is a close-up of some lovely leaves, and another tree which is green and red. |

The sky was so very blue, that trees with yellow leaves really looked spectacular. As I was heading back toward my house, and peering at likely looking trees, I was surprised to see that the moon was already rising. I actually managed to get a photo of it thru a nice shaggy tree. Below are two flowers I spotted at Hillcrest. While I am not a fan of the Bird of Paradise my mother was, so that was a nostalgic find on Thanksgiving. I do like Iceland Poppies, and the yellow one caught my eye from half a block away, glowing in the sunshine, while all around there was shade. |
