Greece 2001

In April 2001 my old high school friend, Father Edward Franks, and I joined a group organized by Cross Culture Tours to see Greece. Easter turned out to be a wonderful time to visit: places were not yet packed with tourists, and the weather was grand. Plus being able to join in the Easter celebration with the Greeks was a special bonus.

Crete

We arrive in Athens and immediately boarded a local flight from there to Crete.

Mykonos

Our first Greek island was Mykonos, and I was completely charmed.

Delos

The ancient holy island of Delos is one giant ruin. The pillaging started in ancient times, and not much is left standing.

Peloponnese

Return to mainland Greece and a bus ride from Athens to the Peloponnese, where we stayed awhile, and celebrated Easter.

Mycenae

We saw the Tomb of Agammenon, the ruins of he cities of Mycenae and Corinth, and Ed danced on a table.

Olympia

We do some boating in the Aegean, vist Nafplion, and go to Olympia, which was a magical place.

Delphi

The holy shrine of Delphi, home of the Pythia priestesses, the ancient Oracles of wide renown, now home of a fine museum.

Santorini

So was Santorini the great volcano that destroyed the Minoan civilization, and the source of the legend of Atlantis? Could be.

Athens

Back to Athens, this time to see the wonders there.
